On a side note in making that previous animation smear post I was amazed at how many smear examples I found for old episodes of The Simpsons. The modern episodes feel so stiff. Look at at this comparison of animation from the old intro to the new.

Without a doubt my favorite thing to draw in 2D animation are smears.  You can really let yourself go and draw any crazy motion you want. The results may work or they may not but it never ceases to amaze the ridiculous hijinks you can get away with in a single frame.  Some of the above frames are just so extreme as to be completely nonsensical by themselves but in motion look perfectly normal.

Animation smears are brilliant fun.

Maybe you should try approaching the canvas in different ways.
